Microsoft windows xp ftp client
In Mid January the FTP uploads started to fail on all the pc's very inconsistently, both from the cameras and the images uploading to the remote server. The cameras logs would report FTP server communication problems and the Batch job uploading at night would just not connect to the remote FTP server. Trying all these things didn't have any impact at all. After many weeks of pulling my hair out I tried disabling Windows firewall. I know I know I should've tried this from the start but I thought if it was causing problems it would just stop it from woking at all.
The moment I disabled Windows firewall, all my problems went away. The cameras could FTP without any problems and the Windows XP machines are all uploading to the remote server without any problems.
Is anyone aware of changes that may have happened to Windows firewall to cause these issues??? I have had to leave the firewall disabled on all the PC's to be able to work but I am obviously nervous about doing so. I'm not sure if I'm posting to the correct forum as it didn't occur after installing SP3 but all the PC's are running SP3 Any help would be much appreciated.
Your report suggests that the firewall settings need to be looked at, but we don't have any information on how the firewall was configured. This may be the final step toward resolving the issue. Sincerely wish to get help from fellows. So far, the only difference I have be able to find between my two machines is that the Laptop is running a wireless network and the desktop connects to the network via Ethernet. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback.
This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. I have the same question We have another simple test FTP client which was running 4 threads with each opening a new FTP connection, doing a directory listing and closing the FTP connection as fast as possible overnight with the firewall turned off.
With the firewall turned on it fails in a short space of time. The confusing thing is that if the test FTP client and the FTP server are run on the same machine the failure occurs even though the firewall is turned off.
This means that the problem may not be firewall related. Any ideas on what could be going on would be much appreciated. Hi Ian,. Which OS are you testing? Do you compose the application using native code or using managed.
Net Framework? If it is possible, a little bit the source code or the steps to reproduce the problem will be helpful. Therefore we can investigate the issue locally. It is not necessary that you send out the whole of your project. We just need a simplest sample to reproduce the problem. You can remove any confidential information or business details from it. I do have the test project that highlights the problem.
We are running this on a Windows XP platform. You can send it to me via Email v-yifl [at] Microsoft [dot] com. This Windows XP is a full clean machine with administrator account. There is no any security software installed. The buildin firmware is on and set by default.
