Project Types. To assess issues, such as environmental impacts, right-of-way issues, ADA compatibility, local support, and cost estimates. Construction For construction or installation of bikeways infrastructure.
May include transportation trails, side-use paths, bicycle and pedestrian shared-use bridges, cycle tracks, bicycle lanes, and other major projects. Minor Retrofits For installation of low-cost treatments to enhance bicycle routes May include bicycle route signing, pavement markings, bicycle parking, automated bicycle counters, drainage grate replacement, and similar low-cost treatments.
Matching Fund Requirements. Grantees are required to provide a minimum of 20 percent of total project cost as match. The matching fund contribution can be in the form of cash, an in-kind contribution, or a 3rd party contribution. Letter of Intent. The letter of intent should include: Project Title Project Description purposes, multimodal connections, affected neighborhoods and other relevant information Physical Limits of Project Anticipated Total Project Estimate - The estimate does not have to be finalized.
Estimates can be preliminary to reflect the anticipated costs of project tasks Anticipated Bikeways Funding Request Amount; and Contact information of likely project applicant including name, title, organization, email address and phone number.
Objective: Developing community-based, motorized and non-motorized recreational trail projects. Eligible applicants: county or municipal governments, or non-profit organizations non-governmental agencies must secure an appropriate government agency as a co-sponsor.
Objective: Reducing the number of motor vehicle-related crashes, deaths, and injuries on Maryland roadways. Eligible applicants: state and local governments, law enforcement agencies, non-profit organizations, and institutions of higher education. Requirements: Match one of the top safety priorities and implement the strategies identified in the Strategic Highway Safety Plan.
Projects are not limited to PFAs and have no local funding requirement. New Sidewalk Construction for Pedestrian Access Fund 79 Objective: Supports construction of new sidewalks along the state highway system where none were previously provided. Requirements: Projects must be requested by the local jurisdiction. All areas are eligible. Bicycle Retrofit Fund 88 Objective: Supports on and off-road bicycle facilities along the state highway system to promote connectivity or address safety concerns.
Requirements: No match is required for on road facilities; off road facilities are subject to the same match requirements of the New Sidewalk Construction Program. Urban Reconstruction Program Objective: highway reconstruction and improvements that promote safety and economic development along SHA roadways within urban centers.
